About Costa Rica Font

Costa Rica is a bold, sans-serif typeface designed by Rafael Ferran i Peralta. Its strong, clean lines and thick letterforms exude a sense of power and confidence. Though labeled as a “bold” squarish font, Costa Rica manages to remain highly legible, even at smaller sizes. The letterforms have a slight geometric construction, lending a modern and contemporary feel.

What impresses me most is how this font masters the fine balance between boldness and readability. Too often, ultra-bold typefaces become an illegible mess at smaller sizes. Not Costa Rica – the letter spacing and character shapes allow it to remain clear and striking, even on smaller infographics or product labels.

From a design workflow perspective, Costa Rica is a dream to work with. The OpenType features provide me with a wide range of typographic controls. And knowing it’s completely free for commercial use saves me the headache of licensing hassles. I can use it confidently across all my client projects.

Where Can You Use the Costa Rica Font?

This versatile font shines in projects needing an assertive, attention-grabbing typographic treatment. It’s an excellent choice for headlines, logos, and branding materials, especially for companies or products meant to convey strength and durability.

I have used this free font for a racing theme project. It seems a perfect fit to me. Costa Rica’s chunky letterforms worked well on posters, ads, and racing liveries.

However, its clear letterforms also work well in shorter text. For example, in captions or brief product descriptions.

About License and Download

Perhaps best of all, Costa Rica is completely free for commercial use under the Open Font License (OFL). This license permits you to use, study, modify, and redistribute the font without paying any fees. Designers can download the font files directly from here. With its free license and versatile, bold style, Costa Rica emerges as an excellent all-purpose display font option.
